U.S.: Best Buy will launch a tablet PC

Technology Director of the American chain revealed a tablet PC similar in its design to HP’s Slate. Will the computing giant separate between the Slate 500 computers for the corporate market and identical Tablet PCs in different brands for the private market?

U.S. electronics chain Best Buy, is expected to launch its own tablet PC. CrunchGear website reported yesterday (Sunday) that the company’s technology director, Robert Stevens, published two new pictures of the new computer on his Twitter account.

The design is very similar to Slate 500 PC being developed by HP, including the positions of the sockets on the side of the body. Screen size looks close to nine inches. Perhaps it was born on the same assembly line, and is offered for sale like a generic PC. No technical details have been released yet about the mysterious tablet by Best Buy. Stevens later wrote that he’s been publishing pictures of the tablet for months now and that no one should be surprised.

Another assessment made by CrunchGear is that HP designates the Slate 500 for corporate market, while the private sector will be exposed to the same product – but under a different brand.

Best Buy’s computer is branded with the logo RocketFish, a mobile phones accessories that is owned by the chain. Such a marketing concept will harm the HP’s image with its customers and investors if the Slate 500 fails in the private market – and still allow her to reap profits from its production.

Last month, Stevens Twittered that Best Buy is working on a computer system board that will be based on Android 2.2, maybe this is the computer he referred to. This week wondered if version 2.2 is compatible with the tablet’s interface.

The tablet market is expected to be a very big and widespread – especially with the sale of generic PCs, which will enable each network to brand and sell them. Alongside HP’s Slate, tablet PCs are also in development in Asus labs, Toshiba, BlackBerry, MSI and other manufacturers.

This category currently includes only one product widely produced – Apple’s iPad. According to the company, over three million iPad computers were sold.

This can easily crush the iPad. The Android OS is far superior in every way to the apples iOS (name stolen from Cisco, look it up). Also, I bet very shortly after it comes out and is popular, other companies will start mass producing them and the price will drop. Bye-bye apple!
