Toyota

The Japanese company would like to preserve its status as the world’s largest car maker in emerging markets taking a bite into India, China and the Far Eastern countries.

Toyota aims to take a central part of China’s vehicle sales to Asian markets close to it. The world’s largest manufacturer who’s in the midst of its biggest crisis in history, is planning an inexpensive simple car that will make its debut in 2012 and suit developing countries. This is part of an economic- image strategy which is intended to increase revenues in light of the difficult situation it finds itself in for the past two years.

According to Chunichi Shimbun, a newspaper published in Japan, the car will cost one million yen, or about 11 thousand dollars. Its Platform will be based on the Super Mini – Yaris and Toyotoa hopes that through local production of spare parts, it can save up to 30- 40% on production costs of the standard operation costs in Europe or the U.S..

Toyota notes that the company ‘s subsidiary Daihatsu , is developing a similar car at a lower cost. However, if Daihatsu markets a reduced cost vehicle it will be sold in South – East Asia only. Daihatsu may also decide to market it under the Toyota brand, which will launch the dwarfish Atius in India next year.

The car is designed primarily for countries in which Volkswagen, the contender and world’s largest manufacturer, entered by storm and is conquering itself a significant place mainly after acquiring 20 percent of Suzuki which had a large sales percentage in Asia. Is there really more need to prove that China is the hottest motor arena in the world?
