A chinese patent: at least two different companies offer a “wrap” for the iPod touch that turns into a phone. The first device published was called apple peel 520 and was invented by a 22 year old programmer. The device is a sort of chassis that enlarges and thickens the device. It contains an antenna, sim card and an additional batter. By installing a designated program it interfaces with the iPod itself thus giving in iPhone functionality.

According to reviews the “Apple peel” batter lasts for 5 hours of conversation or 120 hours of holding. The iPod, of course has to be jailbroken before it can receive or make calls or SMS messages with the help of the Apple peel.

On an interview to CNN the Apple Peel inventor said he loves the iPhone but that it is too expensive in China. iPhone’s in China are now being soldat $600 whereas an iPod touch can be found in $235. The Apple Peel is being sold at only $57. Even though its been on the market for a short while there is already another Chinese competitor that does the same action and is called “tPhone”.
