Houston, Texas Control center has a new problem – this time, not one concerning satellite spacecraft. NASA’s Twitter account, in which American astronauts write their twits from the international space station – was breached over the weekend, reported by the Space website.

Hackers used the popular Twitter account (over 48 thousand followers) to plant a commercial for TV sales. “It looks like the astronauts Twitter’s account has been compromised,” said NASA spokesperson, Stephanie Schierholz. “Five commercial twits were sent from the account.

According to Schierholz, NASA located the breach about fifteen minutes after it occurred, and repaired it.

The astronaut’s Twitter account was opened recently, it has gained many followers – and for good reason: pictures of astronauts photographing Earth from space and uploading them via TwitPic, sometimes even shooting themselves repairing and maintenance work on satellites in space, as demonstrated by this photo.
