Facebook overtakes Google: The best place to work in

Facebook

Apparently Facebook manages to be social not only online, but in reality as well. A survey done anonymously among employees found that employees are satisfied with the treatment they get from Facebook whereas Google employee’s claim there are no promotion options.

There is no doubt that working for a high tech company is considered as one of the most desirable ones. Luxurious buildings, riddled with game consoles, accessorized kitchens, lunch in restaurants, gyms and cafeterias in the lobby make staying under the fluorescence lights and computer screens the top ambition by many of the young generation all over the world. Of all the high-tech companies in the world, which is the most desirable? A new survey done anonymously among employees states unequivocally: Facebook.

“Working in Facebook is an amazing experience”

It seems Mark Zuckerberg knows what he’s doing, and not just for his customers but for his corporate headquarters employees in Palo Alto, USA. According to the survey run by Glassdoor.com online and published on the Business insider blog, Facebook deposed Google from the number one spot in the ranking of best companies to work for. Company employees filling in the survey were full of compliments for the fine food, casual dress code and video games and said facebook inspires an energetic and politics free work environment. One that enables full and positive cooperation between all levels of management and development groups – a truly social network .

Some of the feedbacks state that “you can’t ride a train or bus without noticing someone next to you talking, listening or using Facebook and that’s an awesome experience to know that you work for a company like that”. Another employee stated a far less nicer side to Facebook which was “the organized chaos of the company’s management” when according to him “there are times when chaos really becomes extreme, but that is also improving”, he finishes the review with a positive tone.

Its hard to advance in Google

Despite Facebook’s win, don’t knock working conditions in Google. The personnel department of this giant locates the best people in their field (they know the search business) and that’s what gives Google its technological superiorit over its competitors. Complaints from Google employees are directed mainly at low level execs that were hired in the first days of the company and are now blocking promotional possibilities of the younger more talented personnel.

The truth is that getting a job in any of the 25 companies on the list seems like a dream come true to most of us. Technology became a basic necessity for people and working in high-tech means to serve this need – just like our fathers wanted to work for Israel’s electricity company or Bezeq. The prestige that accompanies belonging to international conglomerates also adds to the charm and gives us a sense that we are part of something bigger, something that can change the world. Maybe in working for Google, Facebook, Apple (no. 5), or Microsoft (no. 12) we really can. In any case they each have (separately) more customers than the entire US citizens together.
