Casino construction delayed by failure to attend meeting
The bid to start construction of a new casino on Roth Hill will have to wait another 30 days after a confirmation by Premier Gaming Group boss Kevin Preston that they were late in the submission of their materials to gaming authorities in Mississippi at their Thursday meeting.
Preston also stated that the planned construction dates wouldn’t have gone on anyway with the level of the river which has risen in recent times. The innovative casino will have part of it on land with the other part over the river and Preston stated that the pilings can only be driven when the level goes further down than it is at the moment.
He however stated that plans are advanced to send the materials to the gaming authorities in a couple of days so they can get the green light to start construction next month.
The city’s mayor, Jake Middleton stated last month that officials of the gambling firm were scheduled to meet with the gaming authorities to be given the green light to start building the casino and he revealed that many of the city’s officials had been reliably informed about the casino project and the architecture of the Roth Hill Project has been seen by them.
Two weeks ago, Preston revealed that a million dollars more will be spent on the project by his firm. He stated that$4.2 billion expenditure had already been spent by Premier Gaming in the month of August.
The gambling firm’s reconstruction team with the help of Preston travelled to Natchez on Thursday and their agenda for the next day was to have a meeting with the gaming authorities about the current state of affairs as well as meet new and old contractors for the project.
The projects architect, Edward Vance revealed that the design of the casino will make it appear as if it had been on the waterfront for ages. He said an old saw mill was the influence behind the use of wood in the interiors of the casino.
He also revealed that the exterior wood was ordered from a form with a specialty in rehabilitating old wood to look new. He stated that the project was to help protect the environment.
The project has not yet received the green light from the Army Corps of Engineers but it’s expected to be approved after a couple of conditions set by the State Water Quality Department are satisfied.
