Apple introduces: iPod with a social network
For the first time in seven years Apple held its press conference during the media event live. During the event, the company revealed a new iPod, a TV converter and a store to rent TV episodes on iTunes.
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs enthralled audience during the company’s annual music event, in which it launched the new Nano players, the iPod Touch whose starting price is $229 for the 8GB version. The press conference was broadcasted live.
The price for the new 16GB Nano will be $179 and the 8GB will be $149 as the price of the 2GB dropped to $49. The new iPod Nano will be based on a touch screen. Jobs also announced the update of the new iOS 4 which will include new functions that enable iPhone users to receive program updates that will allow them to download HD videos using the WiFi option, as well as a new GameCenter. In addition, Jobs revealed a new function for those taking pictures with the iPhone – which will allow saving photos in three different copies that when placed together will receive an HDR quality photo.
The new program which is the 4.1 version of the iOS will be available to download starting next week free of charge. This program is intended for the iPhone and iPod devices. The iPad will continue to run on the older version for now, but Jobs has stated that a coming update will enable the wireless printing capabilities on Apples tablet as well.
Jobs showed fans Apple’s growth rate when he reported that Apple has so far sold 120 million devices that rely on the iOS and stated that so far 6.5 billion application which are 200 downloads per second have been sold. According to him, the company has over 250 thousand application, out of which 25 thousand are meant for the iPad. Some additional data that Jobs volunteered was the number of stores Apple has which totals 300 stores in 10 different countries where millions of users visit daily. Jobs emphasized the importance he sees for the growth in China for the company’s development.
