Acupuncturist Accused of Infecting Patients in HIV-Aids
Swiss authorities have accused an acupuncturist of giving fifteen people the HIV virus on deliberately. The authorities have found that nineteen people in total that have been identified as having HIV are having connections with the acupuncturist. Fifteen of them believe that their HIV came from the acupuncturist. The other four have not accused the acupuncturist, and they have not given a reason for their infection. So far the authorities are yet to release the identity of the acupuncturist to the press.
A person can only get HIV through the transmission of bodily fluids like blood, semen, or breast milk. Though the authorities still do not know how these people were infected, some of them are claiming that they were injected with infected blood. The authorities have not confirmed this accusation, saying that they are still investigating the way in which the infection was transmitted.
This investigation has been ongoing for the past five years, the investigation started in 2005 when someone came forward to the police, accusing the acupuncturist of infecting him with HIV. Authorities now believe that all of the infections supposedly took place between the years of 2001 and 2005. A decision about whether the man will be charged is expected to take place sometime next year, said the magistrate, Hermann Fleischhackl.
If charged in relation to this investigation the acupuncturist could face a long period in jail. The charges in this investigation will be for intentionally spreading a human disease and the other is causing serious bodily harm, which lead to five to ten years in prison respectively.
